First Bridgewater College Republican News Letter!

 Hello All!
Welcome to your first post EVER! Bridgewater College Republicans (BCR) now has its own blog (and if you’re reading this, you’re hopefully on the blog right now!)! The blog’s web address is BCRepublicans.blogspot.com and the blog is scheduled to have daily entries, Monday to Thursday by some of the BCR’s members. Posts will cover international, national, and state politics, as well as other current events that BCR members find important. The posts are meant to be strictly opinionated but informative, and anyone can contribute to the blog (just contact the bloggers!). The names of the bloggers on the top of this page are links to each members blog. There will also be informative posts about the meetings of the executive committee as well as meetings of the entire club that are meant to keep everyone informed of upcoming events, goals, ideas, and basic club information. Please follow us by clicking on the follow button on the right side of the Blog.

Our Semester Plans

On February 10, Rudbel Alfaro, Kenny Nwankwo, Jason Turner, Ellen Yoder, and Denise Widner met and discussed upcoming events and ideas for the BCR. BCR is ready to kick off the semester with lots of exciting events! Firstly, on February 17 at 7 pm, the BCR will be hosting a meet and greet for its members as well as anyone interested in becoming a part of the BCR. The following week (February 21-25) there will be another meet and greet that will include JMU’s Republican members; however, the details haven’t been fully nailed down yet so be on the lookout for more information! BCR is planning for Richard Bell and (possibly) the Clerk of Court in Harrisonburg, Virginia’s District Court to come meet with the BCR. Also, in April during Freshman orientation, BCR plans to have a booth to help bring in our freshmen Republicans!
BCR is planning to have a debate between Dr. Josefson and Dr. Schneider with Dr. Watson as the mediator. The time, place, date and topics will be announced soon. There is also an idea of hosting a “Political Café.” The idea is that it is to be conducted in the same manner as BSA’s Soul Café, but the topics consist of politics. More information will be given in the future given that there is enough interest to host this event.
BCR has scheduled their club meetings for once every month, while the executive committee will meet once every two weeks. The BCR has a stated goal of 40 members by the end of the semester (currently at 27) with at least a thousand dollars in its bank account to aid in kicking off the Fall 2011 semester! At the end of spring semester, plans are in the works for a banquet that will inaugurate next year’s officers, honor our accomplishments for the year, and say goodbye to our graduating seniors!
For your convenience we have added a reading list to the bottom of the blog. Further, please feel free to comment on our posts. Comments are welcome and much appreciated.

Sincerely,
Denise Widner
Republican Secretary
